    Error or issue

    Unable to issue certificates following Windows updates. RPC errors discovered in Audit logs.

    “WIN32: 1355 ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN”

    Description

    Following some Windows updates we are unable to issue certificates.

    Cause

    Infrastructure issue.

    Somehow, for the CA, DNS had become de-configured. Therefore requests to the CA hostname were unable to be resolved to an IP address. This resulted in the RPC errors are the CA was no longer contactable. This was caused by Windows Server Updates.

    Resolution

    Correction of the misconfigured DNS for the CA such that it could be contacted again by its host name.
