2.3 Setting the configuration options

This section contains information on the configuration options used for SecuGen integration.

2.3.1 General settings

You must set the biometric configuration options in MyID.

  1. From the Configuration category, select Operation Settings.

  2. Click the Biometrics tab.

  3. Set the following options:

    • Account for missing fingerprints

When this option is set, if you have skipped any fingerprints and not reached the minimum number of fingerprints as specified in the Enforce a minimum number of fingerprints during enrollment? configuration option, you must provide a reason for not capturing the minimum number of fingerprints in the Confirm Finger Capture dialog.

    • Biometric matching library

Select SecuGen from the drop-down list to use the SecuGen matching library.

Note: You must have the SecuGen library installed on the MyID application and web servers if you intend to use the SecuGen biometric matching library. See section 2.2, Installing the SecuGen drivers and library for details.

    • Enforce a minimum number of fingerprints during enrollment?

When the Account for missing fingerprints option is set, if you have skipped any fingerprints and not reached the minimum number of fingerprints as specified in this option, you must provide a reason for not capturing the minimum number of fingerprints in the Confirm Finger Capture dialog.

    • Fingerprint enrollment device

Select SecuGen from the drop-down list to use SecuGen readers to enroll fingerprints. If you select a different option here (for example, Precise) you will not be able to use SecuGen readers when carrying out the initial enrollment of fingerprints; however, you can still use SecuGen readers to capture prints for verification.

    • Verify fingerprints during card creation

Setting this to Yes will enable biometric samples to be used to identify an individual when issuing a card.

    • Verify fingerprints during card unlock

Setting this to Yes will enable biometric samples to be used to identify an individual when unlocking a card.

    • Verify fingerprints during card update

Setting this to Yes will enable biometric samples to be used to identify an individual when updating a card.

  4. Click Save changes.

2.3.2 Adjusting matching rates

If you are using multiple types of device, due to differences in the way devices capture and encode biometric data, the accuracy of matches is affected. The default verification threshold setting at installation is 50.

A verification threshold score between 30 and 50 is suggested. The higher the score, the more precise the match has to be.

Note: If you find that you have to lower the matching score below 25, this may indicate a problem with the accuracy and quality of the original data.

To change the verification threshold score:

  1. From the Configuration category, select Operation Settings.

  2. Click the Biometrics tab.

  3. Set the Biometric matching threshold option to a value between 0 and 100.

  4. Click Save changes.

Take advice from your biometric device vendors on the matching levels, and what the level means in terms of false acceptance and rejection rates.

2.3.3 Adjusting brightness and minimum quality settings

SecuGen readers allow you to adjust the brightness and minimum quality settings to make it easier to scan fingerprints.

The MyID defaults are set to a brightness of 0 (to improve contrast) and a minimum quality of 50 (to prevent multiple scanning attempts). If you need to change these values, you can use the configuration options within MyID.

To set the brightness and quality settings:

  1. From the Configuration category, select Operation Settings.

  2. Click the Biometrics tab.

  3. Set the following options:

    • SecuGen fingerprint reader brightness – set to a value between 0 (dark) and 100 (bright).

    • SecuGen minimum capture quality – set to a value between 0 (low quality) and 100 (high quality).

  4. Click Save changes.
